A witchdoctor who conned a father of Sh 1.3 million by lying to him that he was able to heal his epileptic son was on Tuesday charged with cheating.

Kenneth Nkolwa was arraigned before a Milimani court where he denied the offence of cheating under section 315 of the penal code.

It is alleged that on diverse dates between May 29 and July 28, this year, at Stima Plaza Ngara in Westlands, Nairobi, he presented himself to Deka Said Omar an uncle to an Epileptic child.

“On the diverse dates between 29th May 2023 and 28th July 2023 at Stima Plaza Ngara in Westlands Sub County within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before court by means of fraudulent tricks being a witchdoctor, you induced Deka Said Omar to pay One million three hundred shillings by falsely pretending that you were in a position to treat and heal an Epileptic condition of a nephew to the said Deka Said Omar through magic heal a fact you knew to be false” the charge sheet states.

According to police reports, Nkolwa told Said that he had a long history and experience of healing people suffering from incurable diseases and that he would use magic to heal the boy.

He denied the charge before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and pleaded with the court to grant him reasonable bail terms.

However, the prosecution opposed his release on bail saying he is a flight risk and should be held in custody.

The court ordered for a pre-bail report to be compiled before it can determine the issue of bail.
