State goes after Pastor Ezekiel’s school days after court suspended deregistration of his church

Barely a week after the high court suspended the deregistration of Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s new life church the state now wants to close his international school.

The registrar of societies had cancelled the registration license of New Life Church but the court suspended the decision pending hearing case filed by Odero.

On Wednesday, the Director of Criminal Investigations wrote a letter to Kilifi International School saying they are investigating their operations.

In the letter addressed to the school accountant, the DCI said they were seeking to establish the registration status of the school that is run by Odero.

“This office is conducting an inquiry vide DCI Kilifi no 24 of 2023 where we seek to establish registration status of the above quoted institution,” the letter reads.

The DCI has asked the school to provide them with information on school bank accounts where school fees is collected from and also all copies of receipts for students’ fees.

Pastor Ezekiel has always been a step ahead of the state since his arrest early this year.

Through his lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, Odero has managed to win every case against the state with the recent one being the deregistration of his church.

The DCI had obtained orders to freeze his accounts but his lawyers filed a case challenging it and the court opened the accounts.

The TV station had also been closed for weeks but it was later opened and its now in operation.

Odero is still reporting to the police once a month until investigations into the case are over.

Omari while addressing the media two weeks ago when the church was deregistered said the state was persecuting the pastor so that they could take his multi-million properties.
