Pastor Paul Mackenzie failed to appear before the senate adhoc committee on Shakahola due what prison authorities said were logistical problems.
Mackenzie was expected to testify before senate on his role in the Shakahola deaths.
However, he didn’t appear and Chair Danson Mungatana said they had received communication from prison saying they needed more time to be able to plan on how to bring him.
Mungatana said Mackenzie’s failure to appear before the committee will not affect the committee’s report.
“We got two letters from lawyer and prisons explaining the difficulties in getting the witness, they asked for more time which we are unable to grant because the committee mandate comes to an end on Thursday,” he said
Mackenzie’s lawyers had also written to the senate saying they needed more time.
The committee said they understood their challenges and would proceed without his testimony.
