Chef at Hennessis Hotel Reportedly Asks Officer for Gun to End His Life Amid Threat Allegations

A chef at Hennessis Hotel, Eric Njoroge Matheri, shocked authorities after allegedly requesting a police officer to hand him a firearm so he could end his life instead of facing court proceedings.

Matheri, who has worked at the hotel since 2023, is under investigation for allegedly sending threatening messages to the hotel’s directors, the human resources department, and the head chef. The threats reportedly followed a dispute over unpaid wages, with Matheri claiming he had not received his full salary.

Investigations indicate that Matheri went absent without leave (AWOL) in early May 2025. Following his absence, the hotel allegedly withheld his salary, prompting him to react with a series of threatening messages directed at hotel management.

According to police reports, Matheri is accused of dropping multiple envelopes containing threats within the hotel premises, in addition to sending numerous alarming text messages to members of the hotel’s leadership.

Police have requested the court to grant a 14-day custodial period to allow for the completion of investigations into the suspected offense of issuing death threats. However, the court declined the request and instead granted only three days, ruling that the two-week duration was excessive under the circumstances.
