Bizzare: Days After Mutinda Killed Kemunto, He Gave Her Phone to a City Church as Offering.

It has now emerged that days after killing his fellow Multi Media University student Sylvia Kemunto, Eric Mutinda took her phone to a city church and offered it as an offering.

According to an affidavit filed in court opposing bail, Investigating officer Jairus Mutua says when Mutinda surrendered to police, two days later he led them to Jesus Is Alive Ministries along Haile Sellasie where they recovered Kemunto’s phone.

On 6th April 2025, the accused led the investigating team to JESUS IS ALIVE MINISTRIES (JIAM) church along Haile Selassie, Nairobi CBD where they recovered the deceased’s mobile phone which
the accused had after the murder incident taken to church and presented it as an offering
,” the affidavit reads

Mutua has asked court to deny him bail saying he is a flight risk due to the serious nature of the offense he is charged with.

According to court papers, on April 3, Mutinda who was at large by this time, contacted his longtime friend, who was also a student at Multi Media through mobile phone, and confessed to having murdered Kemunto by manual strangulation and packed her body to his room and eventually depositing it into Block E reservoir tank.

It is also alleged that after intervention and pleads from some prosecution witnesses, Mutinda surrendered at Sultan Hamud Police Station on April 4 2025.

The officer says the nine prosecution witnesses in this case are the accused’s fellow schoolmates, classmates and roommates so there is a high likelihood that if he is released on bail, he may interfere with key prosecution witnesses among them his roommates.

It is further alleged that the accused person is a flight risk based on the fact that after committing the offence, he fled the University premises to unknown destination.

He also allegedly contacted one of the prosecution witnesses in the case, a student at Multi Media university and informed him that he wanted to cross the border to Tanzania.

THAT I submit that the evidence gathered against the accused is overwhelming and is incentive to abscond bond,” Mutua says.
