Win for Senator Hezena as Court Shields Her From Harassment by Ex-Fiancé

Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has secured a major personal victory after the Milimani Law Courts granted her permanent protection orders against her former fiancé, bringing an emotional end to a breakup that had spiralled into fear, anxiety and public tension.

The case, heard before Magistrates Terer, stemmed from what had once been a hopeful engagement between the senator and Musa Hussein Lenyumpa a relationship she openly embraced before her family elders advised her to call it off earlier this year.

She later returned the KSh 100,000 traditional courtship token, closing a chapter she had believed would simply fade away.

Instead, the senator told the court that the end of the relationship gave rise to harassment, threats and defamatory statements that left her feeling unsafe in places where she should have felt most secure: her home and her workplace.

Those close to her say the emotional toll was heavy, especially for a young leader balancing public service with a deeply personal heartbreak.

In a ruling that brought visible relief to her supporters, the court issued permanent orders restraining Lenyumpa from threatening, harassing, assaulting or in any way interfering with the senator’s peace, as well as barring him from accessing her residence or office.

The court also ordered him to stop spreading false or defamatory statements about her, whether directly or through social media intermediaries.

For Senator Hezena known nationally as the “Queen of the North” and celebrated for her work championing women, youth and pastoralist communities the orders mark a strong affirmation of her right to safety and dignity. Her journey from beauty queen to outspoken legislator has placed her in the public eye, but those close to her say this case revealed a more vulnerable side of a woman who has always seemed unshakeable.

The court’s decision allows her to finally breathe, draw boundaries and reclaim her peace after months of emotional strain. It also sends a reminder that even public figures, often expected to appear invincible, encounter private battles that require courage to confront.

With the orders now in force, Senator Hezena is expected to refocus on her legislative work, carrying with her the quiet strength of someone who chose to fight for her safety and won.
