A United States national, Hudeife Muhumed, will remain in custody for 21 days pending extradition proceedings after a Nairobi court allowed an application by the prosecution.
Muhumed was arrested on October 29, 2025, in Ongata Rongai following a warrant of arrest issued by the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota on July 5, 2022.
According to the prosecution, he is wanted in Minnesota for the alleged murder of Samantha Myaers on April 16, 2022. The suspect is accused of selling drugs to the victim, leading to her fatal overdose.
Investigations revealed that Muhumed fled the United States shortly after the incident and travelled to Nairobi in an attempt to evade arrest and prosecution.
Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, while ruling on the application, granted the request to detain Muhumed for 21 days at Gigiri Police Station as extradition proceedings commence.
