University Graduate Who Diverted Funds From Ministry of Education Detained.

A University graduate who is alleged to have diverted over Sh 1 M from the ministry of Education to his personal account and sharing the money to different accounts has been detained in custody.

The court has allowed police to detain Kibett Langat for 10 days for allegedly diverting Sh 1,173,352 made to facilitate capitation in a primary school from the Ministry of Education to his account and then fraudulently transferred the money to the accounts of his accomplices.

The court heard that Kibet diverted the said funds from the Ministry of Education on January 22, 2025 and the money was meant for Menet Primary School in Bomet County.

After successfully diverting the money, he allegedly flew to Kericho Township where he was arrested and transferred to Nairobi.

According to court records, Preliminary investigations have so far established that the scheme was well planned fraud involving many suspects who are yet to be arrested.

In opposing the application, his lawyer told court that Kibett has a fixed place of abode where the police can always trace him and that he is fresh graduate who is just hunting for a living.

In its ruling, the court allowed the 10 days detention application by police ruling that the matters touching on money meant for education capitation should be handled with care.

The suspect will be detained at Kileleshwa Police Station for 10 days.
