Two KDF imposters who duped innocent Kenyans off millions by giving them fake recruitment letters arraigned in court.

Two men who have been posing as senior KDF officers and duping innocent Kenyans off millions of shillings by issuing them with fake recruitment letter have been arraigned in court.

Albert Bandia and Moses Wanjala were arraigned before a Milimani court where police asked for time to hold them in custody as they complete investigations.

Police alleged that the two have fraudulently obtained money from KDF potential recruits during the 2023 August recruitment exercise pretending to be high-ranking officers in the military.

According to court documents, Bandia who was arrested on Sunday was posing as a military officer saying he is based at DOD Nairobi.

At the time of arrest, he had allegedly obtained Sh1,007,000 from Mark Wafula by falsely pretending that he was able to recruit for him three of his children to the army.

Police further claim that Bandia has also obtained money from other people who reported the cases to police and some have not reported yet that’s why they need more time.

Wafula told police that he met Bandia around DOD and he was desperately looking for a spot in the army for his three sons.

He lied to him that he would sell him calling letters at a cost of Sh 600,000. He sent him Sh 603,000 through his mobile phone and another Sh 154,000 through another mobile number belonging to his accomplice. Wafula later gave him a further Sh 252,000 in cash.

Wafula realized he had been duped when he compared the letters, he was given with the ones issued to other recruits.

The Investigating officer informed the court that the two were a flight risk as they had no known place of abode.

The police told court that if they were released before the investigations were completed, they would interfere with the investigations and disappear for good.

However, in his ruling Ochoi declined to issue the custodial orders to police ruling that the state had failed to give compelling reasons to detain the suspects.

He released them on a cash bail of Sh 300,000 and directed them to report to the DCI Parklands two days every week.
