Two Businessmen Arraigned Over Alleged KSh 12.8 Million Fake China Deal

Two businessmen appeared in a Nairobi court on Thursday, accused of fraudulently obtaining over KSh 12.8 million from a woman by falsely promising to import clothes from China on her behalf.

Mohamed Mohamud Abdi and Bashir Ali Gabow were arraigned before Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, where they denied the charge of obtaining money under false pretenses.

According to court documents, the alleged incident took place on May 10, 2018, in Eastleigh, Nairobi County. The two, along with other individuals not present in court, are accused of defrauding Fatuma Hassan Osman of USD 100,000 (approximately KSh 12,800,000) by falsely claiming they would arrange for the importation of clothes from China.

Both defendants pleaded for lenient bail terms, and the court granted each of them a bond of KSh 2 million, with an alternative cash bail of KSh 1 million.

The case will be mentioned on October 3 for a pre-trial conference.
