Two individuals were on Wednesday arraigned at a Nairobi court for allegedly stealing blood collection kits and bags valued at over Ksh 1.1 million from Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
The suspects, Henry Theuri and Erick Otieno Omedo, are accused of stealing four cartons containing 24 automated blood collection kits and one carton of ordinary blood bags, all valued at Ksh 1,125,870. The items are said to belong to the Nairobi Region Blood Transfusion Centre.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged theft occurred on July 29, 2025, within the KNH premises.
In addition, Omedo faced a separate charge of handling suspected stolen property. The court was told that he dishonestly retained the blood collection materials on the same date at the Nairobi Region Blood Transfusion Centre.
Appearing before Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court granted them a bond of Ksh 400,000 each, with the alternative of a cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
