Two Alleged Employees of Embattled Politician Jimmy Wanjigi Detained Over Possession of Explosives

Two employees of politician Jimmy Wanjigi, who were allegedly arrested in his vehicle with explosive devices, have been detained until Monday when the court will rule on whether they will be held for additional days.

This comes after the DPP made an application to the court, requesting that the two be detained for two weeks to allow police to conclude investigations into the explosives.

The court heard that the two individuals were in a vehicle, registration number KDC 883R, a Toyota Prado, containing the explosives.

It was alleged that the vehicle was intercepted on Muthaiga Road while attempting to enter a certain building.

“The driver managed to escape while two other suspects were arrested by the police who were tracking them from Nairobi CBD,” the affidavit reads.

The DCI told the court that upon arrest, several items were recovered, including four suspected hand grenades, two phones, seven pocket chargers, and an identity card.

The state argued that the investigations are complex and require more time to be concluded, which is why they are asking for an extension.

The prosecution informed the court that they intend to hand over the items to bomb disposal experts for analysis.

Chief Magistrate Benard Ochoi ordered the two suspects to be detained in custody until Monday, when a ruling will be made on whether to release them or not.
