Grace Nduta Wairimu, who currently serves as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kanyenya-ini Ward in Murang’a County was arraigned in court for being a key player in the fake abduction of MP George Koimburu.
She was arrested yesterday and is accused of being involved in an alleged plot to abduct and possibly murder the Juja MP, in violation of Section 258 of the Penal Code.
Wairimu was arraigned alongside Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Muhia before Magistrate Carolyne Mugo.
Investigators are requesting 15 days to detain the first three suspects and 14 days for Grace Nduta.
The DCI further informed the court that Wairimu is under investigation for causing a disturbance in a manner likely to breach public peace. The same charges are being pursued against the three other suspects.
Detectives allege that the abduction was staged and implicate Wairimu as a key player in the plan. She had earlier claimed to have been attending church and political events in Kangema on May 25—the day Koimburi was reported missing. However, investigators say that surveillance and witness accounts indicate she and the MP were together the previous night at a popular local entertainment venue, contradicting her alibi.
This revelation has cast serious doubt on the legitimacy of the abduction claims and sparked questions about the motive behind what now appears to be a fabricated incident.
Magistrate Carolyne Mugo is expected to rule on the DCI’s request for custodial detention later today at 2 p.m.
