A Mt. Kenya University student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Science) was on Monday arraigned in court for allegedly stealing more than KSh 7.8 million from Sidian Bank.

Collins Mutuma appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts, where prosecutors accused him of conspiring with others who are still at large to steal KSh 7,882,845 from the bank on January 11, 2025, at an undisclosed location within Kenya.

Mutuma also faced an additional count of stealing KSh 471,302 from a customer’s Sidian Bank account.

In a separate charge, the student was accused of unlawfully acquiring KSh 471,000 from the bank, knowing or having reason to believe that the funds were proceeds of crime.

He denied all the charges and was released on a cash bail of KSh 200,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.
