Kenneth Mundia was on Tuesday arraigned before the Thika Law Courts, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of creating disturbance.
The charge sheet stated that on October 25, at Karibaribi area in Kiambu County, Mundia caused chaos by chasing his mother, Assumpta Njoki, while armed with a glass bottle, demanding to be given food.
According to the prosecution, on the material day, the accused was at their homestead when he demanded to be served a meal. He was armed with a glass bottle, which he used to kill a hen. He then demanded that his mother cook the hen, threatening that he would do to her what he had done to the hen if she refused.
Terrified, the mother screamed for help, and neighbors rushed in. They escorted her to the nearby police post, where the matter was reported, leading to the accused’s arrest.
When the facts were read out in court, Mundia admitted they were true. He told the court that he had been struggling with mental health issues due to lack of medication and that on the material day, he was very hungry. He pleaded with the magistrate to help him get medical assistance at Mathare Hospital.
The court directed that the accused be taken for mental assessment before further proceedings.
