A Nairobi man who viciously attacked his wife over claims of infidelity will serve a six-month jail term, following a guilty plea.
George Otieno was sentenced by Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu at a Nairobi court after admitting to assaulting his wife, Elizabeth Eshiwani, in a violent incident that unfolded on July 20, 2025, at their rented residence in Hazina Village, South B, Starehe Sub-County.
According to the court, the assault began moments after Otieno ended a phone call with his mother. Enraged, he allegedly turned on his wife, punching and kicking her before grabbing a cooking stick to continue the brutal beating. As Eshiwani attempted to flee, Otieno struck her with a padlock.
Neighbors who rushed to her aid were met with threats from Otieno, prompting them to retreat. The distraction, however, allowed Eshiwani to escape and report the assault at South B Police Station. When she later returned to the house, she found her mother who had come to check on her being verbally abused by Otieno.
Eshiwani gathered her belongings and sought medical treatment.
The court was told that Otieno had insisted his wife vacate the house before launching the attack. He pleaded for leniency, expressing a desire to apologize. But Magistrate Nyamu rejected the plea, emphasizing the severity of domestic violence and the need for deterrence in cases that endanger the lives and dignity of women.
She sentenced Otieno to six months imprisonment, sending a strong message against gender-based violence within the home.
