Man Who Used OCS Talaam’s Phone to Extort From His Family and Friends While He Was in Police Custody Has Been Charged With Computer Fraud

Brian Rono Kiprotich is accused of computer fraud contrary to section 26(1) of the computer misuse and cyber crimes act No.5 of 2018.

The phone had been confiscated by IPOA for forensic analysis in relation to the investigations into Albert Ojwang murder.

It was alleged that on the diverse date between 16th and 19th June 2025 within the republic of Kenya, with others not before court with fraudulent or dishonest intent replaced sim card belonging to Talam Samson Kiprotich and unlawful solicited money for his own gain.

According to police, on 20th July, 2025 at Embakasi-Pipeline area within Nairobi County in Kenya, without lawful authority was in possession of Identity cards belonging to Jola Shele, Robert Mwenzi, Stephen Wambua, Njoga Masila, Geoffrey Kipkoech, Nicholas Ouma and Patrick Agena Muhonja.

He accepted being in possession of Id belonging to Geoffrey Kiprono alleging that he was his brother and they were staying together.

However, the court questioned if he had a permission to posses the Identity card.

Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina directed that the accused to be supplied with copies of statements and documentary exhibits.

The matter is set for mention on 1st Of August 2025.
