Lawyer Danstan Omari Says He Will Not Run for Nairobi Senate Seat in 2027

Renowned criminal defence lawyer Danstan Omari has announced that he will not be vying for the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

In a New Year message shared publicly, Omari said the decision was reached after extensive consultations and listening closely to the views of the public.

After listening closely to the ground, I have made a deliberate decision not to run for Nairobi Senator,” he stated.

The advocate, who has in recent years been the subject of political speculation due to his high public profile and frequent commentary on national issues, did not disclose whether he plans to support any candidate or pursue a different political path.

Omari is widely known for handling high-stakes criminal and constitutional cases and for his strong courtroom presence, a reputation that has often fuelled calls for him to enter elective politics.

His announcement appears to bring to an end months of speculation about a possible Senate bid in the capital, with many observers having viewed him as a potential contender in what is expected to be a highly competitive race.

For now, Omari signalled that his focus remains on legal practice, reiterating his long-standing slogan that “the defence never rests,” even as the country inches closer to the 2027 polls.
