A Tanzanian man has recounted a distressing experience at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) mortuary after arriving in Kenya to collect his late brother’s body for burial in Tanzania, only to discover that the remains had been mistakenly switched.
According to the man, his brother’s body had been erroneously released and buried in Nyamira County, leaving the family in shock and confusion. He moved to court seeking orders for the exhumation of the body to allow for DNA testing before the remains could be transported to Tanzania for a proper burial.
Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Paul Mutai allowed the application and ordered the exhumation of the body buried in Nyamira County on December 30, 2025. The court further directed the Chief Government Pathologist to oversee the exhumation and conduct DNA sampling to establish the identity of the remains.
Additionally, the magistrate instructed the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Borabu and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Manga Police Station to provide security during the exhumation process.
