Kibra MP Peter Orero’s driver has been fined Sh100,000 by the Milimani Traffic Court after pleading guilty to obstructing other motorists in a viral incident captured on video.
The footage, which sparked public outrage, showed the driver blocking traffic along a city road as he exchanged words with journalist Larry Madowo.
When arraigned in court, the driver admitted to the offence and pleaded for leniency, explaining that he had been rushing to the airport at the time.
“I am sorry, Your Honour. I was in a hurry to drop someone at the airport and I will not repeat the offence,” he told the court in mitigation.
In her ruling, the magistrate acknowledged his apology but said the law clearly prescribes a fine of up to Sh100,000 for the offence.
“I have considered your mitigation, but the law provides a fine of Sh100,000. I therefore impose the maximum penalty,” she ruled.
The driver was ordered to pay the fine immediately.
