International Student in Kenya to Remain in Custody Over Alleged Crypto Fraud

An international student from the Central African Republic studying in Kenya will remain in police custody until May 28, 2025, over allegations related to cross-border crime.

Jesus Godoua Imedii, a student at the University of Nairobi, and his Kenyan co-accused, Judith Mbatha Nzioka, have been remanded awaiting a court ruling on their bail and bond application.

The pair face charges of defrauding a Rwandan national, Tuyishime Grace, of 116,000 USDT (approximately Ksh 15.36 million). They allegedly misrepresented themselves as being capable of assisting her in trading cryptocurrency on the Binance platform.

Appearing before Magistrate Carolyne Mugo, both suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution opposed their release on bond, citing concerns over Imedii’s foreign nationality and the fact that his residence in Kenya has not been established.
