High Court extends asset freeze in Sh813 million case against Kiambu governor

The High Court has extended interim orders freezing assets in a civil recovery case filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over Sh813 million allegedly linked to corruption involving Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi and other defendants.

The matter was placed before Hedwig Okwany for directions, as the court considered an application by the anti-graft agency seeking the extension of interim injunctions stopping the defendants from dealing with the disputed assets.

Justice Okwany was sitting in place of Musyoki, who was not sitting.

The court allowed the application and extended the freezing orders until March 17, 2026, pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

Parties were directed to exchange written submissions on the injunction application within 14 days.

The court also granted all parties liberty to respond to a separate application by the first defendant seeking to strike out the case.

The matter will be mentioned on March 17, 2026, for further directions, and the court directed that the extracted orders be served on all parties.

The commission is seeking forfeiture of the Sh813 million to the State, arguing that the funds constitute proceeds of corruption.
