Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu continues to grapple with fresh legal troubles after the court postponed the hearing of his latest criminal case to next week.
Waititu, who is currently serving a sentence for corruption-related offences at Kamiti Maximum Prison, faces new charges stemming from remarks he allegedly made on September 29, 2024, during a public event at Ruiru Stadium in Kiambu County.
According to the charge sheet, the former governor is accused of making statements directed at “hustlers,” market vendors, boda boda operators, clergy, and teachers remarks the prosecution says were intended to provoke a breach of the peace and incite hostility against certain political figures.
Prosecutors argue that the statements, made before a charged crowd, were calculated to create tension and disorder, contrary to Section 94(1) of the Penal Code, which criminalizes offensive conduct likely to cause public unrest.
While Waititu has already been formally charged, the hearing has now been pushed to next week to allow further administrative directions by the court.
He remains in custody as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) continues to pursue the case, adding to the string of legal battles that have shadowed the former county boss since his ouster from office.
