Fresh details emerged Monday during the mention of fake lawyer Ralph Edward Nguma’s case when the defence claimed that the lawyer watching brief had paid their client Sh 5 M.
Senator Dan Maanzo representing Nguma told Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe that the lawyer watching brief was very close to the accused and therefore conflicted.
He was responding the concerns raised by the said lawyer wanting to know how Nguma was taken to police station and not remand prison as it should be.
“Your honor the same counsel watching brief for the complainant has so far given the complainant 5 million in the case and as a result he is a witness,” Maanzo said.
He also accused the said lawyer watching brief of not being honest with the court saying he was not present when the court issued orders for Nguma to be taken to police station.
Maanzo insisted that the counsel watching brief is a witness in the matter and as a result he cannot be the counsel watching brief.
“At the same time, this case has been exaggerated and that is why you can see so many members of LSK in court representing both sides, the LSK should protect this profession and counsels should stop demeaning their colleagues,” Maanzo said.
Maanzo said they have evidence that their client who is the accused has been mishandled and are prepared to table their case in due time.
“We know that the complaint is planning to bring other charges but we are prepared for them,” he said.
Nguma was not in court for the mention of the case as he was said to be admitted at the MP Shah and the defence produced documents to that effect.
The case will be mentioned tomorrow to allow police to verify and confirm if indeed the accused is in hospital.
Nguma was charged last week with several counts of forgery and masquerading as a lawyer.
