Former Judge Joseph Mutava, Three Others Freed on Cash Bail as Bribery Probe Continues

Former High Court judge Joseph Mutava and three other suspects arrested in connection with alleged bribery claims have been released on cash bail of Sh200,000 each as detectives continue investigations into the matter.

Mutava, who was arrested yesterday in a coordinated operation by detectives, will not be presented in court today as investigators finalize their inquiries and continue gathering evidence.

According to detectives, the arrest followed a complaint that the former judge had allegedly solicited a bribe of Sh10.4 million in order to influence the outcome of a commercial dispute pending before the High Court.

Also arrested during the operation were Advocate Kimani Wachira, auctioneer Dr. Kennedy Ngambau Mulwa, and Tom Awili, who investigators believe may be linked to the alleged bribery scheme.

Sources familiar with the probe say the arrests were part of a planned sting operation aimed at collecting evidence and unraveling the suspected corruption network.

Following the operation, the four suspects were taken in for questioning as detectives recorded statements and examined materials connected to the allegations.

Investigators say inquiries are still ongoing and that the investigation file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and a decision on whether charges will be preferred.
