Elderly Man Dies at Bungoma Law Courts While Waiting for His Case to Be Heard

A somber mood engulfed Bungoma Law Courts on Tuesday morning after an elderly man who had come for his case collapsed and died within the court compound.

According to a statement from the Judiciary, the man, who appeared visibly unwell, was brought to the court premises on a motorcycle at around 9 a.m. Upon arrival, a customer care officer issued him a “Priority Card” a special card given to elderly persons, expectant mothers, persons with disabilities, and those who are sick to enable them to access expedited services.

It was later established that his matter was before the Environment and Land Court. He informed officers that he would wait for his advocate’s arrival and chose to rest on the grass outside the court, accompanied by his brothers.

However, when a court official went to check on him with an update regarding his case, the man was found unresponsive. Police officers were immediately called to the scene, and it was confirmed that he had passed away. The body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and further procedures.

In a message of sympathy, Judiciary Spokesperson Hon. Paul Ndemo extended condolences to the deceased’s family, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and expressing the Judiciary’s solidarity with the bereaved during this difficult time.
