Court Releases University Student Accused of Impersonating President Ruto’s Daughter

A university student, Webstar Ochora Elijah, has been released on bond after appearing in court on charges of impersonating Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto.

Webstar was arraigned before Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, where he was formally charged with personation in violation of Section 382 of the Penal Code.

According to the prosecution, on May 22, 2025, at an undisclosed location, Webstar conspired with unidentified accomplices to falsely pose as Charlene Ruto. He allegedly operated an online account under the name Zawadi Publishers, using it to mislead the public and with the intent to defraud.

The court was told that the suspect published a book titled “Beyond the Name Charlene Ruto and the Youth Uprising“, tricking members of the public into believing it was authored by President Ruto’s daughter.

Webstar pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court granted him a bond of Ksh 100,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh 50,000.
