In today’s court news, The High Court has instructed the Assistant Director of Probation Services to work closely with the defence lawyers representing four police officers accused of murdering baby Pendo to prepare detailed bail and bond assessment reports.
Trial Judge Margaret Muigai also directed the Witness Protection Agency to compile a report outlining measures to ensure the safety and protection of victims involved in the case.
According to the judge, the victims include women who were allegedly raped, tortured, and harassed by police officers during the 2017 post-election violence in Rarienda Sub-county, Kisumu County.
The court further issued an order prohibiting the four accused officers from visiting the crime scene in Rarienda or having any contact with the victims.
This directive followed an application made by Willis Otieno, a lawyer representing the victims.
Judge Muigai scheduled the matter for mention on May 28, 2025, to review the progress of the bail and bond report as well as the victim protection plan.
In the case, the state has so far charged Chengo Masha, Linah Kogey, Cyprine Robi Wankio, and James Rono with murder, rape, and torture
