The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi has temporarily halted the ongoing recruitment of police officers following a fresh petition filed by former legislator John Harun Mwau.
In the case, he has sued the Inspector General of Police and the National Police Service Commission, with the State Law Office also appearing as a party to the proceedings.
Lady Justice Hellen Wasilwa issued interim conservatory orders suspending the entire recruitment exercise until the petition is heard and determined.
Mwau filed the urgent application on September 30, 2025, raising concerns over the legality of the ongoing police enlistment process.
The court directed the respondents the Inspector General and the NPSC to file their responses within seven days. The petitioner was equally granted seven days thereafter to file a further affidavit and written submissions.
Justice Wasilwa fixed the matter for mention on October 21, 2025, to confirm compliance and for the parties to highlight their submissions before the case proceeds.
This order has far reaching implications as it puts a halt to the countrywide police recruitment that were scheduled to begin from tomorrow all through to next week
