A Nairobi court has ordered the detention of four individuals for five days following their arrest in the Central Business District (CBD) with toy firearms and rubber bullets.
The suspects Gin Anmitou Abwao, Collins Karani Ireri, Brian Mwaniki Njue, and Jemimah Kagendo Gichovi appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Celesa Okore. During the hearing, the prosecution sought a 14-day custodial order to allow further investigations.
According to the prosecution, the four were apprehended by police along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi. Officers on night patrol noticed a suspicious vehicle parked near a Shell petrol station and approached it for inspection.
Upon searching the vehicle, police reportedly discovered multiple mobile phones, a toy revolver, an AK-47 CCCP knife, and six rubber bullets. The suspects were immediately taken into custody.
The prosecution explained that additional time was needed to submit the toy gun to ballistic experts to determine whether it was capable of firing.
While the court did not grant the full 14 days requested, it approved a five-day detention period to allow police to complete preliminary investigations
