A businessman was on Thursday charged with conspiring to steal poisonous sugar destined to be used as raw material for the production of Industrial Ethanol.
It is alleged that Yahye Elias Bare conspired to steal poisonous sugar valued at Ksh 20,064,000.
He was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego at Milimani Law Courts and denied all the counts read out to him.
It was alleged that on diverse dates between December 9 and May 3 2023, Yahye jointly with others not before the Court conspired to steal condemned brown sugar intended to be used as raw material for distillation of Industrial Ethanol.
Yahye further denied a count of stealing 20,064 bags of 50Kg of condemned brown sugar valued at Ksh 20,064,000 intended to be used as raw material for distillation of Industrial Ethanol the property of Kenya Revenue Authority.
The prosecution further alleged that he interfered with goods subject to customs control where the prosecution alleged that Yahye on diverse dates between April 21 and May 3, 2023 removed 20,064 bags of 50 Kg condemned brown sugar.
Magistrate Alego released him on a Sh 800,000 bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh 400,000.
The case will be mentioned on January 10 next year for pretrial.
