A clerk attached to Makadara Law court was on Tuesday arraigned before a Milimani Anti-corruption court and charged with receiving a Sh 50,000 bribe from a litigant.
Abdifatah Mohamed Hassan is accused of receiving a Sh 50,000 bribe in exchange for facilitating the processing of proceedings in a criminal case.
It is alleged that on January 25, 2024, when Hassan, while serving as a court assistant, is said to have received the money from one Mohamed Muhumed Omar. He was arrested the following day and has since been under investigation.
He denied the charge and through his lawyer requested the court to grant him a lenient cash bail, citing his role as a judicial officer and father to a young family. The lawyer also argued that the accused is not a flight risk and would comply with any court directives.
Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa released him on a bond of Sh 800,000 with one surety of a similar amount, or alternatively, a cash bail of KSh 300,000.
The court further ordered that Hassan may not leave the country without express permission from the court.
The case will be mentioned on June 24, 2025, for pre-trial directions.
