A Catholic Missionary In Court For Stealing From The Dead

A Catholic missionary was on Thursday arraigned before a Nairobi court over allegations of stealing from a deceased person’s estate.

Tom Waiharo Njoroge, a missionary serving in Kenya’s North Eastern region, was accused of unlawfully transferring property belonging to the late Joseph Sante Ole Shoona without the consent of the estate’s administrators.

According to the prosecution, between April 2021 and October 2025 at ASK Grounds, Jamhuri Park in Nairobi, Njoroge allegedly transferred assets from Mass Labs Limited to Apex Projects Limited, effectively transferring the late Shoona’s stake without authorization.

He is further accused of forging company minutes for Mass Labs Limited, presenting them as genuine and valid.

In an additional count, the missionary allegedly stole Ksh 25 million from Mass Labs Limited while serving as a company director.

His Lawyer urged the court to release him on a very lenient bond terms saying he does not have any other family other than the Catholic Church.

The Court heard that the missionary took part in drilling boreholes for the needy at the North Eastern Kenya and therefore his character demands his release on a reasonable bond.

Njoroge appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts, where he denied all the charges. He was released on a Ksh 500,000 bond pending trial.

The matter is scheduled for pretrial on November 12, 2025.
