A middle-aged woman has been arraigned in court over the alleged theft of Ksh 896,000 from UBA Bank.

Regina Wairimu Wanjiru appeared before the court and was charged with stealing the money from an account belonging to another customer at UBA Kenya Bank.

According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed on January 13, 2026, at the UBA Kenya Bank Westlands Branch. Regina is accused of jointly stealing Ksh 896,620 from an account registered in the name of Sarah Wangari, property of the bank, together with other suspects who are yet to be arrested.

She also faces a charge of personation contrary to Section 382(1) of the Penal Code. The prosecution alleges that she falsely presented herself to a bank teller as Sarah Wangari in order to access the funds.

Appearing before Magistrate Carolyne Mugo, the accused denied the charges. The court released her on a bond of Ksh 500,000.

The case is scheduled to proceed for pretrial on January 29, 2026.
