Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Colleague in Thika

Stephen Ng’ang’a was on Tuesday arraigned before the Thika Law Courts, where he pleaded guilty to an assault charge.

The particulars of the offense on the charge sheet stated that on September 7, at Kisii Estate in Thika Subcounty, Kiambu County, the accused unlawfully beat and injured Joseph Ng’ang’a.

While presenting the facts, the prosecution told the court that on September 7 at around 7:28 a.m., the complainant was at Rexol Petrol Station along the Thika Garissa Highway when an accident occurred. The complainant went to check on how they would resolve the matter, and as he tried to stop the accused, an altercation ensued between the two.

It was during this confrontation that the accused assaulted the complainant before fleeing the scene. The complainant later reported the incident and was taken to hospital, where he was treated and discharged. The prosecution submitted documentary exhibits in support of the case.

In his mitigation, Stephen Ng’ang’a told the court that he and the complainant were friends and even worked at the same place. He admitted that he got angry and beat him on the material day, expressing remorse and promising not to repeat his actions.

Senior Resident Magistrate Maureen Nabibya directed that a probation report be prepared and presented in court on November 11, when the accused will also be sentenced.
