The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced a wave of promotions across the Judiciary, elevating dozens of magistrates and Kadhis to higher ranks in a move aimed at boosting efficiency and strengthening service delivery in courts across the country.
In a letter by the Chief Registrar, JSC says the promotions were approved during the Commission’s meetings held between 11th and 15th September 2025 and the promotions take effect immediately.
Among those elevated are nine Senior Principal Magistrates who now assume the rank of Chief Magistrate.
Among them include Milimani magistrates Dolphina Alego and Esther Kimilu who are now Chief Magistrates.
The Commission also confirmed the promotion of sixty-seven magistrates to the position of Senior Principal Magistrate.
In addition, six magistrates have been promoted to the position of Principal Magistrate, while the Kadhis’ Courts have also seen changes with five officers elevated to the position of Senior Principal Kadhi and six others to Principal Kadhi.
This latest round of promotions marks one of the most extensive shake-ups within the lower ranks of the Judiciary in recent years and is seen as a critical step in reinforcing the institution’s capacity to meet growing demands for justice across Kenya
