A middle-aged woman has been arraigned before a Nairobi court over allegations of stealing more than Ksh 2.6 million from Equity Bank.
The suspect, Regina Ndanga Kamunzyu, appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, where she was charged with the theft of Ksh 2,657,360.
According to the prosecution, between February 12 and May 9, 2024, at Equity Bank in Nairobi, Regina together with other suspects already facing trial allegedly conspired to steal Ksh 2,647,360, property of the bank.
In a separate count, she was accused of stealing Ksh 686,466, also belonging to Equity Bank.
As an alternative charge, Regina was accused of receiving money through her Equity Bank account while knowing, or having reason to believe, that it had been stolen.
She pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The court ordered that she remain in custody until September 11, 2025, when directions on her bail and bond terms will be issued.
