A Nairobi-based medical doctor has been found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal road accident in Ngara.
Dr. Moses Njoroge Ndung’u was on Thursday convicted by Milimani Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Osarigo for knocking down and fatally injuring pedestrian Kijendi Kithome near the Fig Tree area.
The court heard that CCTV footage captured Njoroge speeding towards Kasarani before his vehicle veered off the road and struck Kithome, who was walking on the sidewalk.
Despite administering first aid and later rushing the victim to Kenyatta National Hospital in a taxi, Kithome succumbed to severe head fractures sustained in the accident. A postmortem report presented in court confirmed the injuries as the cause of death.
In his defence, Njoroge claimed he swerved to avoid colliding with a matatu. However, Magistrate Osarigo dismissed the explanation, noting that CCTV footage showed the matatu had already stopped to give way.
“Having analyzed the evidence, particularly the CCTV footage, I find the accused guilty under Section 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code for the offence of causing death by dangerous driving,” ruled the magistrate.
Dr. Njoroge has been remanded in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
