Two suspects believed to be part of a cannabis trafficking ring operating in Busia and its environs have been apprehended by officers from the Busia Police Station.
The operation unfolded when police intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number KMEY 867L, ridden by 50-year-old Alfred Ouma Mapesa. Upon inspection, officers discovered a gunny bag stashed with 24 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
During interrogation, Mapesa cooperated with authorities and revealed the identity of his alleged accomplice 41-year-old Frederick Egesa Wafula. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, police tracked down and arrested Wafula shortly thereafter.
The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, and are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to drug trafficking.
