Emmanuel Mayi Onyango was on Monday arraigned before Magistrate Carolyne Mugo at the Milimani Law Courts on multiple charges, including impersonating a police officer, assaulting a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
According to the prosecution, Onyango allegedly posed as a police officer on July 18, 2025, without the written authorization of the Inspector General, as required under Section 101(b) of the National Police Service Act, 2011.
He is accused of unlawfully arresting one Hakim Fred Mwaura, claiming the latter was in possession of a suspected stolen silver neck chain.
The prosecution further alleged that during the incident, Onyango assaulted a police officer by punching him on the nose, causing actual bodily harm while the officer was performing official duties.
In addition, Onyango reportedly resisted lawful arrest by the authorities.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a bond of Ksh 100,000. The matter is scheduled to be heard on July 28, 2025.
